Since 1935, the Albany Concert Association has presented a variety of high quaity concert performances by well-known nationally and internationally known artists as well as rising young artists. Programs have included ballets, big band sounds, musicals, operas, symphonies as well as vocal and instrumental perfomances by soloists by groups. Albany Chorale maintains a standard of artistic excellence and distinguished musical performing arts. The concerts are held at the Albany Municipal Auditorium. Albany Symphony Orchestra is Southwest Georgia’s only professional symphony. This 85 members award winning orchestra was formed in 1965. Performances includ Masterworks concerts, Adventures in Music concerts, the annual Peppermint Pops concert celebrating the Christmas season, as well as an annual Celebration Celebration concert. The orchestra's performance home is the Albany Municipal Auditorium. During the regular season performances may also be held at the Albany James H. Gray, Sr. Civic Center, the Parks at Chehaw and Mt. The Dougherty Comprehensive High School Chorale, is an award-winning choral group consisting of Albany, Georgia students who come from various backgrounds of economic statuses. As a choral group, the students are advocates of peace - through song, in the fight against school causalities and the social and economical adversities in today’s world. One of the finest choral groups in the nation, this chorale is a recipient of several prestigous awards including the Grammy Signature Award NARAS Inc. and First Place and Overall Winners of 15 National Music Festival Competitions throughout the United States. They have performed for President Jimmy Carter, at the National Annual Black Caucus Convention, Washington, D.C. (2003, 2004 & 2005), with gospel artists Richard Smallwood and Vickie Winans, with classical composers – James Mulholland and Moses Hogan and with with the Southeastern Symphony Orchestra. More...
